The Leadership by Example provided a real insight into the workings of the recruitment process, allowing me to approach employers with confidence in my ability to stand up to scrutiny. One of the main benefits of the programme was that it allowed me to gain objective opinions from senior recruiters on how I could market myself, and more specifically what they themselves were looking for in graduates. I would recommend all graduates to get in touch with the Adab Trust to give themselves a clearer path toward employment.

Without a doubt, my experience with the Adab Trust Leadership by Example programme was a life changing experience. Throughout my time at university, I was very much confused on what career path I wanted to take. Often sending out applications for Graduate Programmes that I was not interested in. Helen Folorunso and Dermot O’Brien of Adab Trust were a fundamental part of helping me hone my passion of pursuing a career in property. Following conversations with Helen and Dermot, I then went about focusing purely on applying to Property related Graduate Programmes.

The programme was excellent and I learnt a lot about myself. It will give students a taste of what is expected in the assessment days. It was a very good opportunity for me to make mistakes within a controlled environment and then receive valuable feedback straight away. I highly recommend undergraduates and graduates to enrol in this programme, which will identify and develop the skills and competencies required to pass the dreaded assessment days.

I found the Leadership programme very supportive. It helped me prepare for interviews by taking us through an intense round of interviews with real life big companies. The feedback helped me brush up where I needed to and helped me go into interviews with confidence. Adab Trust has always been available when I needed advice and has proved to be very supportive.

I embarked on the Adab Trust, Leadership by Example programme in 2007 after 9 months of unemployment post graduation. The programme afforded me the opportunity to undertake psychometric tests, interviews and gain real life experience of a challenging assessment centre. Depending on the area where a candidate needs more support, the Adab Trust highlighted strengths and areas for improvement, providing the opportunity to work on these during the process. This targeted guidance and support was a bonus as it enabled to me to identify and improve how I presented myself to employers. This process culminated in an interview with Ernst & Young and subsequent offer of an internship in March 2008. Post internship, I was offered a permanent position of employment with Ernst & Young. I joined the graduate scheme in August 2008 and am now in the second year of the graduate scheme working in the IT Risk and Assurance practice. I would recommend the Leadership by Example programme and am glad that I participated, as it was instrumental in giving me the opportunity to develop my career within my chosen field.

The Leadership by Example programme is the best career guidance programme I have ever participated in. Firstly, I would like to say that it was well organised and the organisers of the programme were extremely helpful. From the onset I was given the opportunity to experience what a real assessment day was like. It included psychometric tests, interviews, presentations and interesting debates. It was the first time I had had the opportunity to be interviewed by people from companies I have always dreamt of working for. The first batch of interviews was an eye opener for me because I was given constructive feedback immediately after the interviews and also after the whole sessions. I was also given the opportunity to give presentations, write essays and also partake in interesting debates. By the end of the programme I had improved my ability to present and sell myself in the best way possible. I also had the opportunity to network with people I aspire to be like and work for. I also had first hand information about what is really expected from applicants by Ernest and Young for instance. I would say that I could not have been any good at my subsequent interviews without the exposure I was given by the programme. I have recommended this programme to a lot of people and will recommend it to anybody who wants to be a highflyer in their career.

After attaining an upper second class BA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance from London South Bank University, I took on a management role at Safeway where I had worked part time whilst studying. I stayed in this position for two year before moving to small accountancy firm to gain more experience in my chosen career as an Accountant.

After coming across the Adab Trust via some networking contacts, I applied for its inaugural Leadership by Example employment programme in October 2007. I was unsuccessful at first but undeterred I applied for the next programme passing all the initial testing and interview and assessment centre stages of the process with good feedback in April 2008.

Adab Trust facilitated an interview with the Head of Corporate Finance & Director of Human Resources (which was a nerve-wracking experience!) at London Borough of Tower Hamlets; I impressed and was offered a 12 month fixed term contract as a Trainee accountant starting on the 13th July 2008. During this period I was encouraged and supported to complete my Professional Qualification, for which I was already part qualified. I completed the final stage of my Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA) exams in June 2009, hence becoming fully qualified.

I applied for a permanent position in July 2009; I was successful and have had a four grade promotion and a 25% pay rise from my previous role as a trainee accountant. My present role as central service accountant is quite challenging; including advising senior management on financial matters, monitoring their budgets, answering queries from members of the public through Freedom of Information requests, and a variety of other exciting roles and assignments.

I strongly feel that the Adab Trust is a great organisation that is definitely needed. Adab Trust targets that sector of the graduate market which can be overlooked by employers and it gives opportunities to graduates from modern universities to prove themselves in the labour market. Adab Trust helps with preparing for interviews, psychometric testing and a lot of other activities that help to secure a permanent position.

Personally the best I got from Adab Trust is belief in my abilities. I have benefited from such help and am presently building my skills as a finance professional within Local Government. I can say that the Trust has really helped me to explore my true potential with an organisation that is committed to helping me achieve it.

I learned of the Adab Trust Leadership by Example Programme through Dermot O'Brien whom I met at an open day event in Canary Wharf and was invited to the interview stage. The feedback was readily made available to me and was helpful in marking the next steps of my career.

The next stage was the Assessment Centre where I was assessed by the Odgers. Even though I was not successful at this stage the feedback that they gave was invaluable. Helen and Dermot were most supportive and helped me see that this was not the end. So I took the advice on the chin and made the necessary ammendments and before long through Adab there was an opportunity to work at Lloyd's Register as an intern. This materialised into a job as a consultant. Thanks to the Adab Trust.

I was unsuccessful at the final assessment stage; however the support has not stopped...

Taking part in the Leadership by Example programme has helped me develop personally and professionally.

Of all the activities I undertook as part of this programme, participating in the Odgers Berndtson assessment was invaluable as it enabled me perform in a very competitive and challenging environment.

The programme enabled me to assess myself critically, supported me in my attempts at enhancing my strengths and then presented me with employment opportunities that I took advantage of.

Again, all the Adab people I met were incredibly motivated and committed to my success. This kind of on-going support is exceptionally rare and I feel really privileged.
